The Idea Behind the System

GBPUSD movements during the Frankfurt and London sessions

There is a well-known strategy, known to many as the "London Explosion." It is based on the movement impulse that appears at the opening of the London session. However, before London, Frankfurt opens 1 hour earlier. Many people forget about this. And, as a rule, the movements of Frankfurt and London are in opposite directions.

You can make money on this. We look for overbought / oversold conditions at the Frankfurt open, enter the market, and our chances that the movement will reverse are very, very high. We also increase our own potential earnings by using not one, but a whole grid of orders, adding a small amount of averaging.

Entry and Exit Rules

Entries and exits for the Quantum London forex strategy

The strategy uses only one indicator - Quantum. It identifies overbought / oversold areas and signals them with squares of blue (buy signal) and red (sell signal) colors.

Quantum indicator signals

We enter from 8 to 11 in the morning Moscow time (05:00-08:00 GMT) when there is a signal. As soon as the first square appears, we open the corresponding order at the opening of the new candle (after the signal one). On the following squares, we open additional orders. Their size changes - see the table below in the Money Management block.

We exit the position when an opposite signal appears. We try to exit before the American session opens. All positions at once can be conveniently closed using the CloseAllTradesCurrent script (it is in the system files).

Trading can be carried out in manual, automatic, and semi-automatic modes. More details about this are in the video review at the beginning of this post.

Money Management

Money management in the Quantum London forex strategy

This strategy uses a grid of orders. The first orders will be the same size, then their size increases according to the sequence:

Orders #1-12=.01 lot Orders #13-21=.02 lot Orders #22-29=.05 lot Orders #30-36=.13 lot Orders #37-39=.34 lot Orders #40=.89 lot

Since the strategy uses a large number of orders, we will need a considerable deposit size. Namely, 10000 units for every 0.01 lot (that is, if the starting order is 0.01, then 10000 is needed; if 0.02, then 20000, and so on). But do not worry, we have cent accounts, where 10000 currency units in the account equals only 100 dollars. So that you do not get confused, see the table below.

Additional information on trading the Quantum London system
  • There are 2 templates in the archive with the trading system: 1) Quantum - classic and 2) QL - a template with additional auxiliary indicators. The essence of the strategy remains the same, but the second template contains indicators of significant Fibonacci and supply/demand levels, as well as informational additions.
  • On days when important economic news is released, it is better to close before the release.
  • Is it possible to trade this strategy around the clock, and not only during the European session? Yes, it is possible. But I believe that in this case the whole essence of the original idea is lost. But if you still really want to, here are recommendations for trading during other sessions:

ASIAN SESSION:
Start from 3:00 Moscow time to 5 Moscow time
a)During the Asian session, it is recommended to close when an opposite signal appears, then take a pause before Frankfurt and do not trade.
b)If the Asian orders are not closed due to the absence of an opposite signal, then it is recommended 1 hour BEFORE the Frankfurt open to look for an opportunity to close the grid. Break-even and take-profit in the plus are possible.
c)If there is no profit and no take-profit, then the grid moves into Frankfurt and is managed there.

EUROPEAN SESSION:
a)During the European session, it is recommended to close only when an opposite signal appears.

AMERICAN SESSION:
Entry from 15:00 to 17:00 Moscow time
We try to exit before 23:00 Moscow time
a)During the American session, it is recommended to close when an opposite signal appears, then take a pause before the Asian session and do not trade.
b)If the American orders are not closed due to the absence of an opposite signal, then it is recommended 30 minutes BEFORE the end of the day to look for an opportunity to close the grid. Break-even, take-profit in the plus, and also a loss are possible.

Conclusion

The Quantum London forex strategy has gained considerable popularity on our forum, as well as on Forex Factory. And for good reason. An extremely interesting approach to using an order grid actually takes the disadvantages of standard grid trading and turns them into advantages.

As for trading time, here I advise sticking to the original strategy, namely trading only during the European session. Round-the-clock trading is possible, but it neutralizes the very idea of this trading system. In my view, the best option for using this trading system is semi-automatic mode. That is, opening and closing positions by an expert advisor, but with manual control and intervention if needed.
